The Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park is a public preserve of land on the ocean side that protects the endangered West Indian tropical hardwood hammock habitat. There’s a short walking trail with interpretive signs and benches, and nature walks twice a week. At John Pennekamp State Park, you can obtain the required backcountry permit to access the wilder, more remote parts of the park.
