Sailfish Blues
February 24 2005
Hello Fish Fans, The Sailfishin the last 2 weeks has been slower than normal, for those who wanted to wait it out they were rewarded with 2 or three Sailfish, sometimes all at once with alot of quiet time. The transistion from winter fishin to springtime fishin has begun. The Sailfishin is slowin down and the Dolphin and Tuna fishin is pickin up. Over the last 2 weeks we’ve been catchin Dolphin, Tuna, Kingfish, Wahoo, Sailfish, Mutton Snapper and Grouper. The Dolphin fishin was excellent before the full moon moved in and should be excellent again by the first of March. There’s good current on the Islamorada Humps again and the Tuna fishin has been excellent, as long as the North winds don’t push the Gulfstream further out again the Tuna fishin will be excellent for the weeks to come. The Wahoo fishin has been excellent over the last 10 days with some of these fish weighing about 50 pounds, these are the fastest fish in the ocean and their trademark is a long blistering run followed by a high speed run right back at the boat. March will be an excellent time to be in Islamorada, Sailfish for those who have the patience to wait them out, Blackfin and Skipjack Tuna for those lookin for lots of action, Plenty of Dolphin as the weedlines seem to be forming up along the current edges of the Gulfstream. If that wasn’t enough we’ll still be catchin Wahoo, Kingfish and Baracuda when we put on the wire rigs. The Tarpon have started movin in and we’ll be talkin alot more about these monsters in the weeks to come. I’m replacing the Sea Island Lady as seen on the website with a new 32 foot Wellcraft, this boat has a Scarab Hull and is Tournament rigged, it’s reely awesome. I’ll be adding it to the website in March and is available for charter beginning March 1st. I’ll be back in 2 weeks with another fishin report from Islamorada, Sportfishin Capital of the World. Catch You Later, Captain Wayne, Reel Busy Charters
