Cool Fronts and Windy Days
April 08 2005
Hello Fish Fans, Cool fronts and Windy Days have been almost constant since my last report, the good news is it looks like todays front is the last one for the season, April should be gettin back to normal, mild tempertures with sunny skies and lots of fish. The offshore fishin has been hit and miss, one day you’ll find huge weed patches loaded with Dolphin and the next day the weed is so scattered about that it’s not fishable. The best thing to look for this time of year while Dolphin{Mahi-Mahi} fishin is the birds, X football coach Jimmy Johnson of the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins lives here in Islamorada, he caught a 40 pound cow and a 60 pound Bull Dolphin last week under the birds. In the days ahead there will be small packs of Dolphin in the 25 to 45 pound range rapidly movin southwest usually with 3 to 5 birds above them eating the flyin fish that go airbourne to escape the Dolphin. This is a great time of year to fish an open boat like the Reel Busy, runnin and gunnin from birds to birds will produce reely nice catches of big Dolphin, some of these fish will be travellin at 15 to 20 miles an hour eatin everything in there path. The Sailfishin has slowed way down off Islamorada but there’s still plenty around for those who are willing to run north 25 to 35 miles, north of Key Largo and South of Miami there were catches of 8 to 12 Sailfish this past week. The Tuna fishin on the Islamorada Humps is excellent right now on most days, however some days the Sharks are so bad you can’t get the big ones to the boat in one piece, last week one of the boats out of Islamorada caught and released a Tiger Shark after 5 1/2 hours estimated at about 800 pounds. The inshore fishin for Tarpon was reely turnin on before these last cool fronts lowered the water temperture, as soon as the water temperture gets closer to 80 degrees again the Tarpon fishin will be red hot with many of these fish in excess of 150 pounds. If you wanna catch fish give me a call and we’ll hook you up 305-304-9049, or go to reelbusycharters.com for e-mail. I return all calls and e-mails the same day between 5 and 9pm. I’ll be back in about 10 days with another fishin report from Islamorada, Sportfishin Capital of the World ! Catch You Later, Captain Wayne, Reel Busy Charters
