Great Fishing Before Katrina....

Well, this past few weeks has seen some warm weather, but some great fishing. We've mainly been fishing out in the bay, as the offshore fishing has been very hit and miss. One day you catch some nice dolphin, the next all you find are schoolies so small you could use them for bait. The bay though has really been producing, especially for just sheer fun. We've been catching lots of jacks and blue runners, then using them for bait for jewfish, sharks, and big barracudas. The jewfish this year have been everywhere. These fish may just be catch and release, but they fight like you wouldn't believe! One of my charters this week caught the largest jewfish we've boated in over a year. Rick Hurst caught and released an estimated 300-350lb. jewfish. He couldn't believe a fish could wear him out like this one did. His buddy Tim Kirkland had to help him pull a few times since Rick was completely whupped! I just posted a picture of the fish on the Goliath Grouper Gallery page so that everyone can see it. Farther out in the bay the fishing has been even better. There are still some good cobia being caught, along with some permit to give you a great fight. Snapper and grouper have been pretty steady on the reef when you find a good school of them. So we're just waiting for Katrina to go away so that we can get back out on the water for some fun. Well, Until Next Time.....Capt. Jeff
