Women Rule The Week... September 16 2005
9-16-05 I would like to start off by thanking ev eryone who called me or e-mailed this week in rememberance of Colton. It was kind of a rough week, but hearing how many people are thinking of him really helps. He's only been gone for a year, but it seems like I haven't seen him forever. So thanks again, and now to fishing. As my title said, the women fishermen caught some great fish this week. A fun mother and daughter pair headed out with me in the bay for some fun fishing. Nicole and Linda started off by catching a little bit of everything to get back in the fishing groove. We then broke out the big jewfish rod to see what damage we could do. Linda started off, and we dropped a big bluerunner down to the bottom. It lasted about ten seconds before a nice 100lb. goliath grouper gobbled it up. It gave Linda every bit of fight she wanted. She got it up and to the boat though, and won the battle. Nicole was next, and she had to do just a little better. Her first fish was a nice 120lb. jewfish. They took turns back and forth with several smaller jewfish and catching cobia and other species in between. We were getting ready to leave, but Nicole wanted to try for just one more jewfish. We dropped the last bait down, and Nicole hooked the big one of the day. She whooped it though, with the help of a few curse words thrown in. When the fish hit the surface, I was then really impressed! It weighed a solid 180-200lbs., and she was exhausted(Nicole, not the fish). We snapped some pics, and released the big jewfish unharmed as always. The other two days I fished this week we just hit the reef for snapper and grouper. We limited out both days on snapper, and threw a few nice black grouper in the box to boot. Well, Until Next Time....Capt. Jeff
