Florida Keys flats and backcountry report
February 06 2005 |
| We've had a bit of unsettled weather as we do usually at this time of the year. Coldfronts cool the water down very quickly, making life difficult for the fish and anglers pursing them. Between the coldfronts we can experience weather in the low to mid 80's. These warming up periods can really turn on the fish. Bonefishing has been best later in the day, after the sun has had a chance to warm the shallow flats. Redfishing has been pretty good in the backcountry, provided we get a little sunshine to warm them and to help us find em. For those seeking a little action on lighter rods, seatrout, jack crevalle and ladyfish always seem to be present in Everglades National Park. Barracuda roam the flats at this time of the year, in search of warm water and a meal. Dress warmly for your charter, the wind chill factor while riding in an open skiff in the morning can be quite alarming.
