Spring Break 2005
March 28 2005

Greetings once again from Key Largo. Spring Break is in full swing and the charter business has been very busy. Not only are there a lot of people around, but there are lots of fish around too. Sometimes I think that our fish are taking a little payment under the table from the Chamber of Commerce because they are so willing to bite a piece of steel with a sharp point on it.
Last week Marry Ann Goodwin went out with her husband Capt. Lain Goodwin and fellow guide Capt. Tadd Van Demark. Mary Ann pitched a live Crab to a tailing Permit and began the battle of a lifetime. They all watched as the 10 lb. Power Pro line disappeared off the reel. After what seemed to be an eternity, the fish was brought aboard for a pose and released. The Permit weighed just over 30 lbs. Congratulations Mary Ann!!!
Capt. Mike Bright reported an early bite of Tarpon. Mike and his anglers fished in the Flamingo area and released several “Silver Kings” up to 70 lbs. on live Mullet. I have also had reports of the fish showing up around the bridges and in the creeks of North Key Largo.
I had some friends come to town this past week from Newark, Delaware. Martin and Patti Reynolds, along with their three children, Kaiti, Kelly, and Nate, spent a few days on the water with me. We caught Mangrove Snapper, Trout, Jacks, and Ladyfish, not to mention encountering quite a few toothy critters. If anyone ever asks you, there is no shortage of Black Tip Sharks here. If you thought that sharks were a slow moving animal, just stick a hook in the sharp end of a Black Tip. They are great sport on light tackle.
As spring turns to summer and the water continues to warm, we will see more and more Snook and Redfish up on the flats. Spring seems to make the fish, birds, and mammals happy as well as the people of Key Largo. Spring Break is definitely in full swing.
Until next time, good tides and keep the Sun to your back. ><)))>
