The One that Gotta-Way !
December 10 2004
Hello Fish Fans, Since my last report the Dolphin Fishin{mahi-mahi} has been much better than expected for this time of year, the warmer weather has continued to bring Spring-time fishin, lots of nice catches of Dolphin and lots of small Tuna on the Islamorada Humps. The Sailfishin hasn’t taken off yet, the warmer tempertures has slowed the Sailfish migration to the south, some days you’ll catch 3 or 4 and other days only 1 or 2. The warmer tempertures slow the Sailfish migration to the south, these fish are balled up just waitin to come to the Florida Keys, the good news is the first cold front is moving thru with tempertures expected to be in the upper 50’s here in the Keys, the water tempertures will be dropping throughout the southeast coast of Florida, this will send hundreds and hundreds of Sailfish through Islamorada, Sportfishing Capital of the World. The Sailfishin will be Red Hot by mid-week and should continue right through the rest of December and January. On a day off last week I got to go fishin, and I gotta tell ya about the one that gotta-way, after catchin a few Dolphin{mahi-mahi}we we’re workin a weedline in about 800 feet of water when the left rigger exploded, I grabed the rod and soon realized this fish was a monster, it was screamin the 20lb line on the Penn 8500 reel with ease while the rod was bent in half and the stretched line whistled in the wind. I couldn’t fiqure out what it was, not fast enough to be a Giant Wahoo, never jumped like a Blue Marlin, and it felt to big to be anything else, but it was. After about 45 minutes it surfaced about 25 feet from the boat, it was a Yellowfin Tuna about 150 pounds, I got him to the boat by riding that fine line, I was taking that 20 pound line to the Max, and if I would of backed off just a little bit for last last 25 feet, I wouldn’t have to tell you about the one that gotta-way, I’ll get’em next time. I’ll be back with another fishin report from Islamorada in about 10 days, give us a call and let’s catch a few Sailfish 305-304-9049 Catch You Later, Captain Wayne, Reel Busy Charters
