Hello Fish Fans, We got to see it all over the last 12 days, on most days the winds were howlin, some of them were sunny and some stayed cloudy all day long, some days were reely rough, some were just rough enough and on a few days the only waves to be found were boat wakes. The fishin was the same way, we had some great days catchin 3 to 5 Sailfish plus losin 2 or 3 more, but there were also a couple af days we couldnt catchem no matter how long or hard we tried, some days we had as many as 6 and 8 hookups and only managed to catch 1, I dont know whats worse, when you dont seeum or when you cant catchem. On one of the calm days we gave up on the Sailfish and caught Black Grouper, one of them was 42 pounds on 20 pound test line. The good news is the reefs off Islamorada are now loaded with Sailfish, Hundreds of them, and the winds are goin to start layin down this weekend, at least thats the forcast. When the winds are blowin over 20 knots in the same direction as a screamin current it will drive you crazy tryin to get a Sailfish hooked-up, these fish feed goin into the current so when your movin into the waves you cant get a tight line, when you travel with the waves the baits are movin way to fast, and movin broadside thru 6 to 8 foot seas will rock and roll you til your miserable. For those of you visiting the Keys next week make sure you get on a boat and go Sailfishin, it will be spectacular, moderate seas and sunny skies will produce days with many of the charter boats catchin 4 to 6 Sailfish or more per day.
I want to Thank all of you who spent your fishin holidays with me over this past year on the Reel Busy and the Sea Island Lady, its always a pleasure hookin people up with Islamorada Fishin. Ill be back in about 10 days with another fishin report from Islamorada, Sportfishin Capital of the World. HAPPY NEW YEAR, Captain Wayne, Reel Busy Charters
